Sustainable Web Design

Did you know that every online action contributes to varying amounts of CO2 emissions? With the increasing number of Internet users, the environmental impact of the Internet cannot be overlooked. Recognizing this issue, Sivert Gullberg Hansen, Ola Hulleberg, Magnus Moen, and I dedicated our bachelor’s thesis to this problem. The thesis was created in collaboration with NTNU and aimed to tackle the growing concern of carbon emissions from the Internet. The outcome of this project includes two conference papers, which are scheduled for publication in 2023, along with a set of guidelines. These guidelines include various aspects such as images, videos, typography, design, code, and hosting. By embracing these guidelines, web designers have the power to significantly decrease the carbon emissions generated by their creations.
